In the one-year Master’s programme Identity and Integration you study Europe's contemporary challenges of cultural diversity and identity by looking at the continent's complex political, ideological, and cultural history.



Exploring Europe in its entirety 

In the one-year Master's programme Identity and Integration, you study Europe's contemporary challenges of cultural diversity and identity by looking at the continent's complex political, ideological and cultural history. You will explore the intersection between culture and politics, national and European identities, cultural diversity and Europe's past, and all from a transnational and comparative perspective. The programme's unique perspective on European affairs is taught by prominent experts in the field and the resulting expertise is highly relevant to many parts of Europe's contemporary political, governance and business environment.

  • A unique combination of History, Cultural Studies and Modern Literature.

European Studies at the UvA

Perceptions of Europe, its ​cultures and policy-making processes are the primary themes of European Studies at the UvA. What structures past or present contribute to the realisation of a political, legal and economic order? How do Europeans, European states and their institutions perceive and present themselves? The programme devotes special attention to Europe’s relation to the world and particularly to Eastern Europe. The lecturers and researchers who teach in this programme have extensive expertise in various aspects of Europe, both past and present.

Degree certificate

Identity and Integration is an accredited degree programme of European Studies. After successful completion of this programme, you will receive a legally accredited Master’s degree in European Studies and the title Master of Arts (MA).
