The Master’s programme in New Media and Digital Culture offers a comprehensive and critical approach to new media research, practices and theory. It is an internationally renowned programme in critical media theory, dedicated to the study of the social transformations brought about by digital culture. The programme offers you in-depth training in the latest digital research methods and the opportunity to participate in data sprints and to collaborate with international researchers. New Media and Digital Culture at the University of Amsterdam

The Master’s programme combines a variety of teaching formats, ranging from lectures and group projects to tools and lab sessions and creative projects. You will produce a wide portfolio of work, including theoretically engaged essays, empirical research projects, new media experiments, and blog entries. The programme enables you to contribute to timely discourses on digital culture, conduct innovative research projects, and critically engage in new media practices.

Research Master's in Media Studies

The New Media specialisation within the Media Studies Research Master's programme focuses on the theoretical and methodological study of digital culture. The intensive and selective two-year programme has been developed for students with proven ability in and passion for research.

Degree certificate

New Media and Digital Culture is an accredited degree programme of Media Studies. After successful completion of this programme, you will receive a legally accredited Master’s degree in Media Studies and the title Master of Arts (MA).
