Entry requirements

Graduate School of Humanities

The Graduate School of Humanities welcomes all students who meet the entry requirements for our Master's programmes.

University Bachelor's degree

Each programme has its own entry requirements. These can be found under the 'Application an Admission’ section of each programme. Applicants should have at least attained a University's Bachelor’s degree in a field relevant to the Master’s programme.

International applicants

The level of the Bachelor’s diploma from a foreign higher education institution must be equal to three years of Dutch university education. All students' transcripts and diplomas will be evaluated following the Nuffic diploma recognition guidelines.

Grade average for selective programmes

If you are applying to a selective Master's programme, you are required to have a minimum overall grade point average (GPA) of:

  • B/3.2 (American system) for Dual Master's programmes and 3.5 for Research Master's programmes.
  • 2.1 (an upper second class degree in the British system),
  • C (ECTS-system) for Dual Master's programmes and B for Research Master's programmes.
  • 7.0 (Dutch system) for Dual Master's programmes and 7.5 for Research Master's programmes.

Note: Admission will not be granted solely on the basis of sufficient grade point average.

English language requirements

All students applying for an English-taught Master's programme are required to be proficient users of academic English before being allowed to enroll. Please carefully check whether you meet the English language requirements or whether you need to take an official English language test.
