Applying for a Master's

Please first make sure that you are registered for the correct programme in Studielink:

Applying for the first time

Once you have received and activated your UvAnetID, you will be able to apply for a specific track at the Graduate School of Humanities. If you are applying to the Graduate School of Humanities for the first time, please complete the online application form below. If you have already completed the application form and wish to continue uploading your documents, make sure you log in to your Personal Service Page directly.

Applying again or wishing to change your application details

If you have applied to the Graduate School of Humanities before, for instance last year, or if you would like to change a recent application, please send an email mentioning your full name and the programme(s) you wish to apply for to:
Note that you should also register for one of our Master’s in Studielink.

Paying the application fee

All applicants holding a nationality outside the EU/EEA are required to pay an application fee of €50. A receipt of the transfer needs to be uploaded to your personal page with the rest of your application before the application deadline.

After filling in the online application form, you should upload your application documents to your Personal Service Page. Please be sure to use Internet Explorer or Chrome as browsers.

Application documents

You must submit all of the following documents as part of the online application:

  1. Official transcripts of your BA and/or MA
    Note: UvA students can simply upload a print screen of their grades from SIS.
  2. BA diploma (if you have already completed your BA)
  3. Motivational letter
    Note: for selective programmes, the motivational letter is one of the selection criteria. For non-selective programmes, the motivational letter is not a selection criterion, but it should reflect that your expectations of the Master’s programme match the content of the programme and will serve as a starting point for tutor meetings to discuss your focus within the Master’s programme.
  4. CV or resumé (including contact details of two referees)
  5. Sample of academic written work (5-10 pages)
  6. English language test (unless you are exempt)
  7. Programme specific documents (if applicable)
  8. Receipt of application fee payment (non-EU only)
  9. Scholarship application (excellent non-EU students only)
