Graduate School of Humanities

The Graduate School of Humanities offers two different scholarships for talented students from outside the EU/EEA. In the coming year there will be approximately 7 scholarships for 200 applicants (1:25 chance).

Amsterdam Excellence Scholarship (AES)

For: Exceptionally talented Master's students from outside the EU/EEA who are applying for a Research Master's programme (2 years or Dual Master's programme* (1,5 years). 

Amount: Full scholarship worth € 25,000 (covering tuition and living expenses).

Deadline: 1 February 2017

Min. GPA: 3.7 (USA), First class degree (UK), Cum laude (Dutch system)

* Dual programmes that include interviews in their selection process do not take part in the AES scholarship.

Amsterdam Merit Scholarship (AMS)

For: Outstanding Master's students from outside the EU/EEA who are applying for a regular MA programme (1 year)

Amount: Full scholarship worth € 25,000 (covering tuition and living expenses).

Deadline: 1 February 2017

Min. GPA: 3.7 (USA), First class degree (UK), Cum laude (Dutch system)

Holland Scholarship programme

The UvA is a participant in the Holland Scholarship programme.Prospective Master's students in the Humanities cannot apply for this scholarship; only prospective BA students in the Humanities can.

Other financial information

The Graduate School of Humanities does not offer or administer other scholarships than AES and AMS.  There are many other funds and foundations available. We recommend you consult your study abroad office, the Dutch Embassy in your country of residence and:
