The Master’s Latin American Studies provides a solid foundation for a career at research institutes, non-governmental and governmental organisations and civil society agencies both within the Netherlands and abroad. In addition, it serves as a good starting point for a PhD position and the pursuit of an academic career. Several alumni have also started their own development project, established NGOs, founded their own businesses or work as an independent consultant and a writer.
Due to its focus on research, the Master’s Latin American Studies serves as a good starting point for a PhD position and the pursuit of an academic career. Around fifteen percent of the alumni are involved in a PhD project or have already defended their PhD thesis. Several alumni have landed a job as university teachers. The academic ambitions of the alumni are supported by LASP – the interuniversity Latin American Studies Programme that offers a pre-PhD track to encourage student’s preparation for a PhD position.
