The two-year Research Master's Art Studies is an intensive academic programme that enables you to dig deeper into the part of the (art)world that interests you most.
The multitude of theatres, galleries, museums and concert venues put Amsterdam at the very heart of arts and culture in the Netherlands. The two-year research programme Art Studies lets you dig deeper into the part of the (art)world where your interests lie most. It is an intensive academic programme that gives you the freedom to follow your own line of study and helps you develop and execute your own research project.
The three theoretical core courses form the backbone of the Art Studies programme. The remaining content of the programme is based on the research proposal submitted by each student as part of the application to the programme. Together with the programme director students discuss their choice of electives and research ideas for three tutorials. You can choose electives from all Master's programmes of the Faculty of Humanities and tailor the elective parts of the curriculum to what you need for the development of your research project. You will conclude the programme with a thesis.
