In order to have your application for a (pre-)Master’s programme at the Graduate School of Humanities considered, you must complete these steps before the application deadline:

  • Register for the programme in Studielink;
  • Submit a complete application in MyInfo.

Application period

The application deadline differs per programme and nationality. Check the programme page for the application period and deadline that applies to your situation.

Entry requirements

On the programme-specific page, check whether you are admissible to the programme. If you do not meet the entry requirements, you might be able to eliminate your deficiencies by following a pre-Master's programme. Please, keep in mind that your application is evaluated as a whole. The Admissions Board decides whether or not you satisfy the entry requirements.

Language proficiency

Please check the language requirements (Dutch or English, depending on your programme’s language of instruction), to see if you:

  • automatically meet the language requirements;
  • need to upload proof of sufficient language proficiency that meets our requirements (such as a language test, or an approved exemption request.

Applicants who do not meet the language requirements will be automatically rejected.

Diploma and transcript of records

Submit your application before the application deadline, even if you have you have not yet obtained your Bachelor’s diploma. If you have not yet obtained your Bachelor’s diploma at the time of the application deadline, it is sufficient to upload a provisional, up-to-date transcript of records, and a list of courses you still need to finish.

Keep in mind that you do need to have obtained your diploma before the stipulated deadlines that apply to you (see: certified documents).

  • Are you a UvA student?

    If you are a student of the University of Amsterdam (UvA) applying to a non-selective Master's programme, it is not necessary to upload an official transcript of records issued by the Education Desk. Instead, you may upload a printscreen of your courses and grades from SIS.

    For selective programmes, an official transcript is required for the Admissions Board to evaluate your GPA.

The documents must be in the original language. If they are not in English, Dutch, German or French, they must be accompanied by official sworn translations in one of these languages.

Curriculum vitae

Update your curriculum vitae, write it in the language of the programme of your choice and make sure it contains your basic personal data, as well as a clear overview of your educational and professional history to date.

Programme-specific document

Some programmes require one or more additional documents. Check if you are required to send in a programme-specific document on the Application & admission page of your programme.

If you have collected and prepared all these documents, you are ready to start your application.
