The tracks of the Master's Accountancy and Control are also available as part-time programmes and are taught in Dutch. These programmes are for (finance) professionals who want to combine work and study.

  • How theoretical or practical is the programme?

The programme combines academic rigour with hands-on learning. In the Business Lab & Professional Skills course, you work directly on cases that our partnering audit firms struggle with,  from implementing new accounting standards to using data analytics in an audit. Data and technology are equally central, with 2 courses dedicated to applying AI (AI in Auditing and AI in Financial Decision Making) and a course on data analytics. You will also learn about  Python programming and apply process mining and advanced analytics to real audit challenges, preparing you for a profession that digital tools are rapidly transforming. In addition, sustainability is woven throughout the curriculum, covering environmental, social and governance (ESG) ethics, sustainability reporting and the accountant’s role in addressing climate change.

  • How does the programme prepare me for my career?

The programme prepares you for your career from the very first day. You develop practical skills such as client communication, negotiation and data analytics alongside your academic knowledge. Dedicated courses in auditing, IFRS and financial statement analysis ensure you master the technical standards employers expect. The Research Seminar Accountancy and Control and Master's thesis train you to think independently, structure complex problems, and defend well-reasoned conclusions: the level of professional judgement that sets Master's graduates apart in the workplace.

  • What do students find most challenging about this programme?

The Accountancy track demands a high level of technical precision: mastering the details of IFRS, applying auditing frameworks correctly and translating complex regulations into sound professional judgements. It is this combination of pace, volume and technical depth that you may find most demanding. It also prepares you well for the rigour the profession expects.

  • Does this Master's lead to the RA qualification (chartered accountant)?

After completing the Accountancy track, you are eligible to apply for the Post-Master Accountancy (PMA) at Amsterdam Business School, a part-time post-Master's programme that leads to the Register Accountant (RA) qualification. The UvA offers a full programme ladder: from pre-Master's to post-Master's, all in one place. If you come from another Bachelor’s programme, you may need additional deficiency courses for the Post-Master Accountancy after completing our Master’s.
